Content Moderation Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

1. How Moderation Actually Works Here

We want to be direct about this rather than vague: NextChat does not run automated content scanning, image analysis, or an automatic ban system. There is no AI or algorithm silently reading your messages or scanning your images as they're sent. Moderation is report-driven and human-reviewed — we act on things once they're reported to us or otherwise come to our attention, not in real time as content is created.

This is a deliberate trade-off we think is worth being upfront about: it means we're not scanning your private conversations, but it also means enforcement happens after the fact, not instantly.

2. How to Report Something

Open the menu on a direct-message conversation in your sidebar and choose "Report User." You'll pick a reason — spam, harassment, inappropriate content, or other — and can add optional details (up to 1,000 characters). Reports are rate-limited to keep the system itself from being used as a harassment tool. The person you report is never notified of who reported them, or that a report was filed at all.

3. What Happens After You Report

  1. Your report is saved with the reason, details, and who filed it
  2. A notification is sent to our team so it doesn't just sit unseen in a database
  3. A person reviews it — we aim to do this within 72 hours, sooner for anything that looks urgent
  4. We decide on an action (see Section 4) based on what was reported and any context we have

We don't currently have a public case-tracking system, so you won't get a ticket number or live status — if you want an update or disagree with how a report was handled, email support@nextchat.in with the subject line "Report follow-up" and as much detail as you have (approximate time, username involved).

4. Enforcement Actions

Because there's no automated pipeline, enforcement is done directly by our team. Depending on severity:

  • Ask for removal — for a first, lower-severity issue, we may ask the user to remove the content
  • Warning — a direct email explaining what was reported and why it's a problem
  • Permanent account removal — for serious or repeated violations, the account is deleted entirely. This is currently our only account-level enforcement action — NextChat does not have a temporary-suspension feature today
  • Referral to authorities — illegal content (most importantly CSAM) is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement, as legally required

5. Zero-Tolerance Content

The following results in immediate permanent account removal once reported or discovered, with no warning step:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form — reported to NCMEC and law enforcement
  • Content facilitating human trafficking or exploitation
  • Credible, specific threats of violence against a person or group
  • Content that promotes or glorifies terrorism
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery

6. Data Retention for Reports

Reports are kept as a record of moderation activity and are not deleted when the reported account is removed, so we retain a history of what action was taken and why. If you delete your own account, reports you filed or were the subject of remain on file for this purpose; they are not linked to a public profile once your account no longer exists.
